Background Checks

At the start of the 2014-15 season the Fox Chapel Winter League Program implemented a mandatory background screening policy for all coaches for in-house, travel and tournament teams. The background check is thorough, confidential and begins with the winter 2014 season. The cost is $12.00 per applicant. If you are not able to afford this cost, please forward your receipt to our treasurer for reimbursement. The background check must be renewed semi-annually. All commissioners, referees and coaches must submit a background check application by December 1, 2014. All other members of the Board of Directors must be screened. If you have volunteered to coach in the 2014-15 season, or are on the Board of Directors, or are a referee, and you are older than 18 years of age, you can and must complete your Screening here. If you have recently completed a background check for another sports organization which is still valid please provide that information and we may be to use that in lieu of this background check. 1 - Overall record
2 - Head-to-head (only compare head to head if all tied teams played each other)
3 - Head-to-head point differential, (if teams split their 2 head-to-head games)
4 - Least points allowed
5 – Most points scored
6 - Coin flip

Clock Stoppage Quick Overview

  • Timeouts
  • Substitutions
  • Injuries
  • Shooting Fouls
  • All whistles last 30 seconds of the quarter or overtime for youth leagues
  • Adult Leagues last 30 seconds of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, last 1:00 of the 4th quarter, and OT

Player Rating Guidline Chart

0- Rare player can score at will and does so virtually every game
1- Very good scorer scores high point almost weekly
2- Very good defender but doesn't score a whole lot. Does a lot well
3 - Avg. Winter League player. Scores low points per game. Generally understands the plays, etc and is a good part of the team. Knows their role!!
4 - Below avg. May think their role is different than it really is
5 - Lacks basic fundementals

What size ball should we buy?

Girls 1st-2nd: 25.5
Girls 3rd-4th: 27.5
Girls 5th and up: 28.5
Boys 1st-2nd: 25.5
Boys 3rd-4th: 27.5
Boys 5th-6th: 28.5
Boys 7th to Men's: 29.5

Mellon and Curry - Top of steps just outside Mellon Gym doors
Shady Side Middle  - In the lobby outside the gym on the left wall by the door
DMS - left outside corner wall of the cafeteria
Kerr - Front lobby, left side of wall when you walk in front doors
Hartwood - wall outside the gym toward library
O'hara - In gym, in nook by far left hand wall
